Coronavirus: Helping 54 child refugees leave Greece for a new life in Germany
Our member in Greece, METAdrasi, provides homes, education and support for refugees living in the country’s overcrowded camps. When Germany announced that it would host some child refugees living on the Greek Islands, they began a race against time to make it happen.
Against all odds, METAdrasi overcame severely limited transport options and highly complex legal requirements to help 54 children leave the islands for a new life in Germany.
This is a huge achievement, but METAdrasi will not rest. They continue to call for a wider programme of relocation for the thousands of vulnerable children that remain on the islands.
We desperately want to continue and expand crucial work like this through our Coronavirus Emergency Response Programme, operating with 40 local organisations in 36 countries worldwide.
